This site provides information about the record company sleeves used for New Zealand pressed and distributed 7" vinyl 45s. There are some gaps and possible mistakes. If you can add a correct date or sleeve please add a comment or email us. The images of the centre labels are meant to be a guide. Some record companies produced multiple variations of their labels. Too many to show here. This site is dedicated to record sleeves.

Parlophone

His Master's Voice (NZ) Ltd had been releasing 78s on the Parlophone label in New Zealand since 1952. In 1956 they started releasing singles on the new 7-inch vinyl format.

Parlophone: 1956-60

Starting from 1956, Parlophone began releasing singles and issued these in a unique sleeve.

In 1960 the sleeve design was changed to the stripped sleeve.

Parlophone: 1962-76

In 1962, Parlophone introduced the green sleeve. This sleeve would be used for the next 14 or so years. During this time, the green sleeve would have six different versions made. The first version, which is more common, has the same print on both sides. This first version may have been used throughout the 14 or so years.

The above sleeve was printed mainly with the same design on both sides. But there were runs of this green sleeve which had a "Here are some outstanding LPs" advertisement printed on its rear. This second version of the sleeve was likely in use from 1962 until 1964.

Rear of second sleeve, 1962-64

The third version of the green sleeve was likely used between late 1964 (or early 1965) until late 1966 (or July 1967). This sleeve had a tri-panel advertisement for portable turntables on its rear.

Rear of the third sleeve, 1965-66. It came in red and blue variants, and possibly a black one also.

The fourth version is similar to the previous sleeve, except it is a quad-panel of portable radios being advertised. Whether this sleeve came first or later than the previous sleeve, I am not sure.

Rear of the fourth sleeve, likely also between 1965-66. This sleeve came in black, red and blue variants.

In July 1967, the decimalisation of New Zealand currency came into effect. The fifth green sleeve had a 'Young Internationals' ad printed on its rear, with a decimalised price printed for the ad. This sleeve was likely used between July 1967 until early 1969.

Rear of the fifth sleeve, likely between July 1967 until 1968-69.

In 1969, the sixth and (likely) final green Parlophone sleeve had a 'BOAC Mini-Fares' ad printed on its rear. This would have likely lasted until 1973.
