This site provides information about the record company sleeves used for New Zealand pressed and distributed 7" vinyl 45s. There are some gaps and possible mistakes. If you can add a correct date or sleeve please add a comment or email us. The images of the centre labels are meant to be a guide. Some record companies produced multiple variations of their labels. Too many to show here. This site is dedicated to record sleeves.

CBS

CBS Records New Zealand was not a company that changed their design often.

CBS: 1974-1977

Between 1974 and 1977, CBS Records were continually marketed by Phonogram Ltd., but these three years may have been when the limited CBS 'Marketed by Phonogram Ltd' was introduced. It is safe to assume that this sleeve was not around for long because of its scarcity, likely being used between 1975 at earliest until the end of December 1977. With the abundance of the orange CBS sleeve which preceded it, this sleeve was likely distributed along with leftovers of the previous sleeve; it was often practiced by record stores to simply use up old sleeves they had left over, if not use any sleeve for the singles they were selling.

The second CBS sleeve, likely used between 1975 to 1977, possibly used earlier in 1974.
CBS album releases were printed with this 'marketed by Phonogram' logo between 1974 and 1977.

CBS: 1978-89

In 1978, CBS Records began distributing under CBS Records New Zealand. This would welcome the second orange CBS sleeve which was printed in greater quantities than its predecessor.

Third CBS sleeve, 1976-83

Alternate version of this sleeve, in use around the early 1980's. A CBS-distributed label, Epic, had a similar designed sleeve used around the same time.

In 1989 CBS Records New Zealand stopped issuing vinyl singles.
