This site provides information about the record company sleeves used for New Zealand pressed and distributed 7" vinyl 45s. There are some gaps and possible mistakes. If you can add a correct date or sleeve please add a comment or email us. The images of the centre labels are meant to be a guide. Some record companies produced multiple variations of their labels. Too many to show here. This site is dedicated to record sleeves.

London

His Master's Voice (NZ) Ltd had been releasing 78s on the London label in New Zealand since 1954. In 1956 they started issuing singles on the seven-inch vinyl format.

London: 1956-62

From 1956 until 1962 it shared a common sleeve with fellow His Master's Voice licensed label, Decca Records.

Some copies of the 1956-1962 London/Decca sleeve were printed with a flipback.

From 1962 until 1973, London (including sub-label London American Recordings) singles in New Zealand were issued in a unique sleeve.

This sleeve had five versions, each being identifiable by its back cover; this first version has the same print on both sides.

I am unsure if the quad-panel of portable turntables is the later issue in terms of these portable turntable ads commonly seen between 1964 and 1966. If anyone can shed light on this please leave a comment or get in touch.

HMV was re-branded to EMI (NZ) Ltd in 1972. London Records singles were issued in both the purple and blue EMI generic company sleeves from 1973.

  1. I've seen examples of the 1960-65 label without the speed information in the silver area. Were both variations used simultaneously, or is one older than the other?

    1. Your right. The version with the speed info is from 1960-61. The version without from 1961 on. I hadn't noticed that before. Thanks. I will update the post soon.
